Lifted by youth

Many thoughts went through my mind on this, my first trip to the March for Life in Topeka. The large number of young people who participated was extremely gratifying, for in them lies the hope of the future. There were many others there as well, but the enthusiasm, will and spirit of the young to overcome the "Culture of Death" really stayed in my mind. To this add the many legislators who came out to greet us at the Capitol on a cold, blustery day and the moms who brought their children and babies out to see and hear them....

The Legend of Paulbot the Paulistinian

And then God said, ‘Let every man and woman who wishes to be hipster, avant garde, and cool vote for a smooth-talking young black man in the year 2008.26 Then let them vote for an obscure, rambling, old white doctor in 2012.27’ Genesis 2:26-27, “The Lost Verses” In 1988, Ronald Paul ran for President of the United States as a libertarian and impregnated Radical Devotion and Rebellion. After a twenty-year pregnancy, those mistresses jointly gave birth to a single child in the land of Paulistine. They named him “Paulbot.” At the time of his birth, Paulbot the Paulistinian was overshadowed...

'Spank her a**' coaching tactics spark outrage

An athletic club in southern Sweden has come under fire for a coach's use of sexually suggestive materials known as "Hot babes of the defence" to aid the training of a team of 14-year-old boys. The controversial materials employ defence strategies referred to as ”Petra”, ”Jennifer” and ”Sofia”, and were devised by the coach to show the players on a boy's floorball team within the Engelholms FBC athletic club how to play in various circumstances. The strategies go under the name ”Hot babes on defence” (Snygga brudar i försvaret), according to reporters at the publication Feministiskt Perspektiv (FP), who have...

The Rise of Atheism in Pakistan

An increasing number of young Pakistani’s are adopting Atheism and openly questioning the existence of a God. Many analysts have attributed this trend to the rise of Islamist militancy in Pakistan as well as access to social media and other technological tools that allow people to share and explore new ideas. A Facebook group called ‘Pakistani Atheists and Agnostics’ was launched a few months ago and has already attracted over 800 members. I caught up with the founder of this group, a young Pakistani Technologist operating under the pseudonym ‘Hazrat Nakhuda’, in order to discuss this new phenomenon. _______________________________________ Ghaffar:...

Police in Nev. seize pot from Utah-bound ski buses

(12-29) 11:21 PST Las Vegas, NV (AP) -- A police chief in northern Nevada said Thursday he decided to use the discovery of marijuana on five Utah-bound buses carrying 250 underage skiers from Northern California as a teaching moment instead of an enforcement headache. Elko Police Chief Don Zumwalt said he offered a choice to the mostly teenage passengers from the Bay Area: They could spend their three-day ski and snowboard trip in juvenile detention in northeast Nevada, or they could turn over the illegal drugs voluntarily. Obamanomics: Just 55.3 Percent of Americans Between 16 and 29 Have Jobs

Have the youth given up on Obama? By Brad Chase - Special to CNN In 2008, the youth vote helped sweep Barack Obama into office.  Americans 18-29 spread the word on social media, energized fundraising and went to the polls. In 2012, the youth vote is moving on and throwing those omnipresent “Hope” bumper stickers and t-shirts in garbage bins.   Not because of apathy.  Not because another candidate generates more enthusiasm.  Not because of his character.  Not because they think voting is pointless.  The 18-29 vote is up for grabs in 2012 because youth can’t afford cars to put...

Florida runners donate medals, trophy to disqualified foes

In one of the more generous incidents in recent prep sports memory, a Florida girls cross country team voluntarily gave up their runners-up medals and trophy to a school which they felt deserved them more, and they did so entirely of their own volition, without any influence of a coach or other adult.

Recession hitting young men hardest: 1 in 5 now back at home

Michael Gaynor, 25, completed his bachelor’s degree and certification to teach elementary and high-school physical education in May 2009, then set out during a recession to find that dream job. Over the next two years, the quest would take him from substitute teaching and respite care work in Iowa, back to his parents’ home in Skokie; to Florida, where he waited tables, then back to Skokie; to Colorado as a substitute teacher, coach and camp counselor, then, back to Skokie. “My moves back home were always transitional. They allowed me to save up money, not having to pay rent and...
